TOKYO - Game software maker Sega Corp. said Friday it has bought out a Canadian unit of U.S. interactive entertainment software developer THQ Inc. for 2.3 billion yen.

Acquiring all THQ Canada shares from THQ, which filed for bankruptcy late last year, Sega said it aims to use the acquisition to enhance its development capabilities for video games for use with personal computers and smartphones.

Sega said it will basically maintain the 117-person workforce at THQ Canada.
