MANILA, Philippines - Malls are bursting at the seams with shoppers two days before Christmas.

Observers believe the number of mall goers have doubled up, with shoppers and sale enthusiasts looking to capitalize on Christmas deals and midnight sales.

The surge in people is causing traffic along the biggest malls, including the SM Megamall in Mandaluyong.

All SM malls are currently holding midnight sales for last-minute shoppers. Discounts go as high as 50%.

The more popular buys include clothes, shoes, toys and cellphones.

There are midnight sales at Robinsons department stores too.

While Ayala malls like Trinoma do not have any sales, they will be staying open until midnight as well.

All that changes, however, on Christmas Eve as most malls will be closing early.

SM malls will open at 9 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. SM Mall of Asia is the lone exception as it will close by 8 p.m. on December 24.

From Christmas Day to December 27, SM malls will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. SM North, Megamall and MOA will stay open until 11 p.m.

Ayala malls, including Glorietta and Trinoma, will open at 10 a.m. on December 24 and close at 9 p.m.

They will open late on Christmas Day, at 12 noon, and close at 9 p.m. From December 26 to 30, they will open at 10 a.m. and close at 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, Robinsons will stay open until 10 p.m. on December 24 and open at 12 noon on December 25. They will resume normal schedule from December 26 all the way to December 29.
