NEW YORK - Honda Motor Co. said Wednesday it will recall a total of 807,000 vehicles including its leading Odyssey minivan in the United States as they can roll away even after taking out the keys.
Some 318,000 Odyssey and about 259,000 Pilot sport utility vehicles produced between 2003 and 2004, as well as around 230,000 MDX, an Acura luxury brand SUV, manufactured from 2003 to 2006, are to be recalled, it said.
According to Honda, keys cannot normally be taken out without shifting the brake lever to the parking position, but damage or abrasion of the locking device may make it possible for them to be removed without shifting the lever.
Two minor accidents have occurred so far in the United States, it said. The automaker will also recall about 64,000 vehicles in other countries such as Canada and Mexico. The vehicles were not sold in Japan.
