MANILA, Philippines - The United Kingdom wants to boost bilateral trade with the Philippines.

UK Minister of State Hugo Swire, along with a group of British businessmen, met with Transportation Secretary Joseph Abaya to discuss possible infrastructure projects.

Swire says the British government also wants to provide advice to the Philippine government about its public-private partnership program.

"The UK can really deliver on these huge infrastructure projects. We have other huge, difficult infrastructure projects like the crossrail on the London underground... We want to share the expertise of how we built the Olympic Village. How we did these construction projects and how you can deliver these projects on cost and on time.  That's one of the things we're discussing with him," Swire said on ANC's Headstart.

The two countries have also forged an air service agreement.

Swire also met with Ramon Ang, president of Philippine Airlines, which is planning to begin flights to London soon.

"We want Air Philippines to fly to the UK as soon as the outstanding issues with the EU are resolved. Again, we want to increase traffic between the Philippines and the UK," Swire said.  - ANC
