MANILA, Philippines – Globe Telecom Inc. has received its first batch of units of the much anticipated iPhone 5 smartphone, the local telecommunications firm announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, Globe said the units will be deployed to Globe stores in time for the iPhone 5’s commercial launch in the Philippines on Friday, December 14.
Globe is holding the iPhone 5 launch event at Glorietta Mall on Thursday.
The company and its rival Smart Communications have begun taking pre-orders for Apple’s newest smartphone, which was launched in the United States last September.
The iPhone 5 will be sold by Globe and Smart as part of their respective postpaid plans. Three months ago, Globe started selling nano-SIMs, the same subscriber identity module cards used in the new Apple handsets.
