MANILA, Philippines - Prices of pork and ham have already started increasing ahead of the Christmas season, according to wholesalers and supermarkets.
Pork prices went up by as much as P5 per kilo in only a week's time to P150 per kilo, according to wholesalers in Commonwealth market.
The prices, however, are not expected to increase further next week, as vendors said they might start losing customers if rates are hiked some more.
Meanwhile, ham prices have already risen by as much as P20 per kilo as of this month versus rates in the same period last year, the Philippine Amalgamated Supermarkets Association (PAGASA) said.
Prices of ham and other noche buena items are expected to increase further come December 15 as consumers troop to stores for last-minute Christmas shopping, Steven Cua, president of PAGASA, noted. -- from a report by Zen Hernandez, ABS-CBN News
