MANILA, Philippines -- President Benigno Aquino III has approved Manuel V. Pangilinan's NLEx-SLEx connector road and 10 other public-private partnership (PPP) projects, paving the way for a P113-billion worth of infrastructure spending next year.
The P25-billion connector road is the second biggest project in the list after the P43-billion Cavite-Laguna Expressway. Also on the list is the new P17.5-billion terminal at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, which the Ayala and Aboitiz groups plan to bid for.
Aquino has also approved the P13-billion second phase of the Department of Education's PPP Classroom Project and the P1.7-billion integrated automatic fare collection system, which will unify the payment systems of LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3.
Since the launch of the PPP program in late 2010, only two projects have been successfully auctioned off and another three have been rolled out. But the Daang Hari-SLEx link road project, the first PPP to be awarded, has yet to be pursued as the government asked the contractor, Ayala Corp., to revise the design. -- with a report from ANC
