A subsidiary of SPi Global Holdings, Inc., the BPO arm of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT), has acquired a firm providing K-12 educational materials.

In a statement, SPi Global said Laserwords acquired US-based Tighe Publishing Services to take advantage of opportunities in the educational publishing business in the United States.

"Tighe's editorial, design, and content development capabilities will complement Laserwords' strength in production with conversion, digital, and technology services for educational publishers," Michael O'Brien, Executive Vice President of Laserwords, said in the statement.

"The acquisition of Tighe allows Laserwords to become a leading supplier in the educational publishing arena," he added.

Last month, PLDT Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said prospective buyers of SPi Global have started their due diligence on the BPO firm.

It is still unclear, however, if PLDT would sell the unit completely.
