MANILA - San Miguel Corp said Tuesday it acquired another Australian wine bottling and packaging firm as it continued to boost its presence in the region.
The conglomerate said that its packaging unit, San Miguel Yamamura, acquired Victoria-based Best Bottlers, which specializes in wines, cider, ready-to-drink and non-alcoholic beverages.
Best Bottlers is the third Australian bottling company acquired by SMC this year and the fifth in the region that serves the wine industry.
San Miguel President Ramon Ang said the company was looking to grow its packing business to include glass, cans and plastics. A new glass plant will open in Cavite by the end of next year, he said.
