MANILA, Philippines - Manila Electricity Co. (Meralco) hopes to launch the full commercial operations of its prepaid electricity service by the middle of next year.
This fllows the signing of an agreement with General Electric for the company's smart grid roadmap.
Meralco senior vice president Alfredo Panlilio says the pilot test will be conducted in selected areas, including Angono, Rizal, in December.
The formal launch is slated in May or June 2013.
Under the prepaid electricity service, consumers can buy P300 worth of electricity, then the equivalent kilowatt-hour of that amount will be loaded to their meter. - ANC
