MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom on Wednesday said it added nearly 1.4 million new prepaid subscribers as of end of June.

KD Dizon, head of Globe Prepaid, said the brand continued to increase its subscriber base by introducing innovative and value-for-money prepaid offers, despite a crowded mobile industry.

As of end June, there were 16.1 million Globe Prepaid subscribers, 9% higher than year ago level of 14.7 million, and a 2% jump from the previous quarter's 15.8 million.

"Globe Prepaid remains in full swing in 2012 with robust subscriber additions in the first half of the year despite intensifying competition and the behavior of prepaid subscribers who often switch SIMs or networks to maximize their cellphone load," Dizon said.

Globe Prepaid accounts for 51% of Globe's total mobile subscriber base. Its second quarter gross acquisitions stood at 3 million new subscribers, 2% better than last quarter’s level of 2.9 million. Cumulative gross acquisitions for the first 6 months were also up 6% to 5.9 million from 5.6 million a year ago.

Globe introduced its newest prepaid offering, "GOUNLI30" which allows subscribers to enjoy unlimited texts to all networks, unlimited calls to Globe/TM, and unlimited Facebook on mobile for only P30 valid for an entire day of use.

"Filipinos are one of the world’s biggest texters, callers, and Facebook users as social connections are important to us, no matter where we are... With GOUNLI30, you can keep up with your friends from Globe, TM, Smart, Talk N Text, Sun, or Red Mobile, including your Facebook connections all over the world at a price that’s within reach," Dizon said.

Globe said this was P10 less than the same promo offered by rival telcos, and offers unlimited text to all networks.

There are other variants available: 3-day variant for P80, 7-day variant for P180, and 30-day variant for P750. To register, text GOUNLI30, GOUNLI80, GOUNLI180 or GOUNLI750 to 8888, or call *143# for free.
