MANILA - Members of the Social Security System (SSS) who were affected by the recent storms can claim their salary loan checks this weekend, the state-run pension fund manager said.
In a statement released Friday, SSS spokesman Joel Palacios said the agency will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. so members with approved loan applications can claim their checks.
Since it announced the early renewal of salary loans to help members affected by storms "Ondoy" and "Pepeng" (international code names Ketsana and Parma, respectively), SSS has approved 38,467 checks amounting to P678.34 million.
"So far, SSS has approved nearly P700 million in loan applications of more than 38,000 members. We will remain open to serve them this weekend," Palacios said.
To accommodate more members, SSS said the Philippine National Bank (PNB) has agreed to open its branch in Diliman, Quezon City on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bank's Diliman branch is on the ground floor of the SSS main building.
"PNB extended its banking hours on October 17 to allow members to immediately encash their checks at the SSS main office," Palacios said.
Palacios said unclaimed checks will be sent through registered mail after three days, with the first batch to be sent out on Monday.
In the meantime, he advised SSS members to verify the availability of their checks through the SSS website.
