MANILA, Philippines - Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) is reducing its generation charge for September.
A hefty reduction awaits consumers of the country's largest power utility as Meralco announced a P1.34/kWh downward adjustment for generation charge, another reduction of P0.14/kwh for transmission charge, and another decrease of P0.16/kWh for system loss charge for a total reduction of P1.73/kWh.
This is the largest cut for the year.
Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga attributes the significant reduction on the resumption of normal operations of the Malampaya natural gas facility, lower demand and more hydropower plants running. For a consumer using 101 kWh, the reduction is P174.73, 200 kWh - P345, 300 kWh-P518, 400 kWh - P690, 500kWh - P863.
Meanwhile, Meralco admits the company still pays double line loss rentals to PSALM despite a decision from ERC saying there is double charging.
Meralco head of utility economics Larry Fernandez says the ERC will have to direct them to remove or reduce the charges.
