MANILA, Philippines - Electricity rates will likely be lower in September because of improved supply from power plants.
Meralco spokesman Jose Zaldarriaga says generation charges, which account for the biggest share in the cost of electricity, may go down due to adequate power supply.
"There were less forced outages in the last supply month and this will hopefully translate to lower rate in terms of the cost of generation," he said.
In August, Meralco customers experienced a P0.31 per kilowatt hour increase in electricity bills due to a shortfall in the power supply as typhoon "Glenda" damaged transmission and generating facilities.
Meralco will announce its generation charges for September on Monday (September 8). - ANC
