MANILA, Philippines - Celso de los Angeles, owner of the controversial Legacy Group of Companies, has been transferred to the Ormoc provincial jail Thursday.
Quezon City Police District Chief Superintendent Benjardi Mantele said this was ordered by branch 12 of the Ormoc Regional Trial Court in Leyte, the same court which issued an arrest warrant for de los Angeles based on the syndicated estafa case filed against him by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
The case involves over P480 million worth of funds deposited in First Inter-State Bank in Leyte allegedly swindled by the Legacy Group.
De los Angeles was recently moved to Camp Karingal in Quezon City from the Saint Luke's Medical Center where he was being treated for throat cancer.
De los Angeles and other Legacy officials also face a number of syndicated estafa cases for deceiving investors in 13 rural banks and pre-need companies with double-your-money schemes.
