MANILA - Agricultural output in the Philippines grew by 1.81 percent in the first half from a year ago as crops harvest rose led by unmilled rice, the state statistics office said on Friday.
The growth was just slightly higher than the 1.51 percent expansion of the sector in the same period last year.
Crops production rose 3.7 percent, with unmilled rice output up 4.8 percent at 8.38 million tonnes, slightly above a government forecast of 8.31 million tonnes for the six-month period.
Poultry output grew 0.73 percent, while livestock rose 0.94 percent. The fisheries output contracted by 1.9 percent, the Philippine Statistics Authority said in a report.
The report comes ahead of GDP data on Aug. 28.
