MANILA – A pick-up in government spending and high consumer confidence will help the Philippine grow economy by at least 6.5 percent this year, Citi said Friday.

Citi is “still quite optimistic” on the Philippines and the market is “relatively sanguine” about security concerns in the south, said Joanna Chua, head of Asian emerging markets, economics and strategy.

The government is targeting growth of 6.5 to 7.5 percent this year.
