MANILA, Philippines - Power distributor Manila Electric Co. said only 7% of its customers are still without power as of Wednesday morning.
Meralco spokesperson Jose Zaldarriaga said the most affected areas are Camanava (Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela City), Quezon City, Taguig, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Pasig, Marikina and Manila.
He said Meralco has started restoring power in these flood-hit areas. There are more than 1,000 Meralco personnel in the field right now to provide support for affected customers..
"Nagsisimula na kami to restore power to areas severely hit by floodwaters... We're conducting clearing and mopping up operations of the lateral lines servicing the main circuits. As of now, around 7.68% of our total customer count is still without electricity brought about by the floodwaters that affected Meralco franchise areas in Metro Manila," he told ANC.
Meralco intentionally cut off power in flooded areas on Tuesday as a safety precaution.
"Foremost is the safety of the residents in the community. before we restore back, we want to make sure it is safe to provide electricity to those affected," Zaldarriaga said.
Meralco advises its customers to check all electrical facilities and internal wiring of outlets before turning on the main switch. - With ANC
