MANILA - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Tuesday secured the cooperation of law enforcement agencies in its crackdown against abusive businessmen whom they dubbed as "dugas lords."
The Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation and National Intelligence Coordinating Agency were among the agencies that pledged assistance to DTI's Project Execution through a memorandum of agreement.
Project Execution will focus on monitoring the price, label and quality of products from supermarkets down to sari-sari stores.
"Ipa-raid natin ang mga dugas lord mapa-hatinggabi man o madaling-araw," said PNP chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa.
(We will conduct raids against 'dugas lords' be it at midnight or dawn.)
The government also sought the help of students and teachers in using the hashtags #NoToDugasLord and #SaktoDapat to encourage millennials to support their campaign.
Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez noted that the government has confiscated over 36,000 substandard products.
Lopez said the DTI was also monitoring complaints against multi-level marketing.
Lopez also mentioned that consumer complaints may be reported to hotlines 8888 and 751-3330. -- With Alvin Elchico, ABS-CBN News
