MANILA, Philippines - Would you put the lives of your loved ones in peril when it comes to choosing the right vehicle? Of course, not. We never want to put our families on the line especially during the rainy season and on long journeys. Agree?

As a driver, you want a vehicle that you can depend on no matter what may lie ahead of you on the road. Apparently, the Covenant Car Company Inc. (TCCCI), a.k.a. Chevrolet Philippines, the exclusive importer and distributor of Chevrolet vehicles and parts in the country, has nailed it with its latest diesel-fed Trailblazer 2.8L 4x4.

An ideal sport utility vehicle (SUV), the 2014 Chevrolet Trailblazer is a seven-seater, which is tailored for an ideal ride and loaded with advanced technology. If you’re looking for a perfect combination of comfort, safety, performance and fuel efficiency, the Trailblazer will most likely fit the bill.

During our test-drive, we took off from Manila with the top-of-the-line Trailblazer LTZ to Baguio on a full tank. We spent a couple of days going around the city and came back to South of Manila still with the fuel gauge indicating that we had a quarter of a tank of diesel left—amazing.

“We at Chevrolet Philippines, along with our 18 enthusiastic dealer partners nationwide, believe that the all-new Trailblazer is another winner in the Chevrolet lineup. With a price that starts at P1,378,888, this vehicle is positively changing the way people are looking at the mid-size diesel-engined SUV. It offers power, flexibility, refinement and comfort wrapped in one stylish sports utility vehicle that’s a cut above the rest. Its go-anywhere features and fuel efficiency allow its owners to go beyond the usual destination, expand their reach and achieve more goals,” said Chevrolet Philippines President and Managing Director Atty. Albert Arcilla.

The Trailblazer looks energetic but still remains elegant. The signature dual-port grille, rimmed by projector-type headlamps, and capped off by a “power dome” hood design tell you that it is a Chevrolet. Flush roof rails not only look good but they also add add to its cargo versatility. The projector headlights give the driver better sight at night without blinding oncoming drivers.

The LED tail lamps coupled with a third brake light provide a clearer indication for other drivers that you are stopped. The Trailblazer’s electric adjustable side mirrors also come with LED turn signal lights which enhance the driver’s vision.

“We wanted it to look agile and athletic, not overly stout and rooted. This vehicle brings a great combination of’s efficient and’s nimble and capable of climbing can tow and provide great comfort...we needed to convey that visually,” said Chevrolet chief designer Carlos Barba during the vehicle’s launch not too long ago.

On the outside, the Trailblazer appears to look brawny but the inside is totally the opposite. It is very spacious and comfortable for both front and back passengers. With the power seating controls, you can easily adjust to your favorite seating position. These seven leather seats, specifically the second- and third-row seats, can be configured in plenitude of ways for space cargo flexibility. This SUV provides a 60/40 second-row split fold-seating, while the third row a 50/50 split seating and go on a complete flat cargo load floor for every possible storage solution—making it the perfect vehicle for city driving or long driving trips, family outings, grocery shopping, trips to the mall, or even for a hauler.

Music buffs will appreciate the Trailblazer’s audio system, which can be controlled via steering wheel-mounted controls and it is fully compatible with all your digital toys and gadgets through USB, AUX input, iPod compatibility and Bluetooth. Phone call button via Bluetooth and cruise control are all located on the steering wheel. Storage and cubbyholes inside the Trailblazer are numerous, as well as cup-holders within the luxurious cabin. During hot spells, the rear passengers will enjoy the separate air-conditioner located in the second and third rows.

Two engines are available: the 2.8L, which puts out a robust 180 hp and 470 Nm of torque; and the 2.5L that cranks out150 hp and 350 Nm of torque.

Buyers can opt for either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission, as well as a 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain. The 4WD mode can electronically change from 2WD to 4WD Hi and 4WD Lo. The controls are laid out in perfect reach of the driver, making them easy to use.

With great power comes great responsibility, they say, and the Trailblazer is not just fully loaded with safety but it has the best braking system in its class, thanks to its advanced four-wheel disc brake system that gives a sense of superior assurance—anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), traction control system (TCS), electronic stability control (ESC), panic brake assist (PBA), cornering brake control (CBC), hydraulic brake assist (HBA) and hydraulic brake fade assist (HBFA) are all thrown in with the package.

The Trailblazer is also fitted with hill descent control (HDC), which can be activated by pressing a button. With HDC, the engine and the brake will work in unison in order to automatically limit the speed of the vehicle to the most appropriate level when tackling a descent. The hill start assist (HSA), on the other hand, prevents the car from rolling when trying to pull away on an up or down gradient by holding the vehicle stationary after the brake is released.

A high-strength safety body structure and a large chassis round off the safety features.

The suspension of the Trailblazer is optimized with the use of an independent double wishbone suspension on the front and half-oval steel leaf springs on the rear, plus gas shock absorbers. Driving confidence is thus assured for all speeds, on a straight road, on a curve, while empty and while loaded. This excellent setup works wonders in superbly supporting the vehicle in virtually all conditions.

With these high-tech features, the Trailblazer comes with a five-year warranty, 24/7 Chevrolet Roadside Assistance and a dedicated 24/7 Chevrolet hotline—all of which are meant to give owners total peace of mind, ease of maintenance, an enjoyable and worry-free ownership experience.

The all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer is priced at P1,378,888 for the 2.5L 4x2 M/T; P1,488,888 for the 2.8L 4x2 AT LT; P1,588,888 for the 2.8L 4x2 AT LTX, while the 2.8L 4x4 A/T is priced at P1,733,888.
