MANILA, Philippines – Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has issued a warning against bogus payment centers after receiving several complaints from customers whose payments were not remitted or paid to the power utility.
Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga advised customers to pay only in “bayad centers” as well as accredited banks, internet banking, mobile fund transfers, over-the-counter payments, credit cards and auto-payment arrangements with banks.
Meralco is warning its customers to be wary of agencies claiming to be accredited bayad centers especially those that charge an extra amount for payment received.
The company said it is also aware of incidents in Wawa, Taguig, wherein several residents paid their bills in certain Expresspay centers but later found out that the money was not remitted to Meralco.
Zaldarriaga said that company is not liable for the non-payment and customers face this risk if bills are paid in unaccredited payment centers.
Maynilad and Manila Water also issued reminders to their customers to only pay in accredited payment centers
