MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) has tapped German telecommunications firm T-Mobile as its partner in providing mobile services to about 3.5 million Filipinos in the US.

Under the partnership, PLDT Global Corp. will offer a new service that will allow subscribers to use a US and a Philippine mobile number with one SIM card through PLDT US Mobility’s Smart World Mobile.

“This allows their loved ones in the Philippines to call and text them at Philippine local rates,” PLDT US Mobility general manager Enrique Yu said.

Subscribers of the no-contract, prepaid service can choose from monthly base plans of $25, $45, and $55.

The service also provides 240 free text messages and free 30 minute calls to the Philippines every month, as well as a 50 percent rebate on the base plan rate every third month.

PLDT president Napoleon Nazareno said the partnership with T-Mobile will ensure nationwide coverage on the fastest long-term evolution (LTE) network in the US.

He added that US subscribers will be connected to the estimated 70 million subscribers of Smart Communications Inc. and Sun Cellular in the Philippines.

Smart World Mobile will also provide a reloadable mobile wallet service, which allows subscribers to send remittance at affordable rates.

Subscribers will also be given access to live streaming of Philippine TV shows with Smart Pinoy TV as well as access to e-magazines from Philippine publishing companies and e-books.

They can also send gifts and pay for utilities in the Philippines through the Smart Pinoy Store and avail of PLDT HOME services such as landline and DSL services for family and friends in the Philippines.
