MANILA - Construction of the Cavite-Laguna expressway (CALAX) has begun with ground-breaking ceremonies this morning attended by several Cabinet secretaries and Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) Chairman Manny Pangilinan.
Public Works Secretary Mark Villar, Budget Secretary Ben Diokno, and Transportation Secretary Arturo Tugade led the ground-breaking with Pangilinan for the 18-kilometer segment, at Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
The P34.5 billion CALAX project will connect Cavitex in Kawit, Cavite and end at South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Mamplasan interchange in Biñan, Laguna.
CALAX will be a four-lane expressway passing through congested residential and industrial areas in Kawit, Imus, Gen. Trias, Dasmariñas and Silang in Cavite, and through Sta. Rosa and Biñan in Laguna.
The project will have 8 interchanges and 1 main toll barrier.
MPCALA Holdings, a sub-unit of MPIC’s Metro Pacific Tollroads Corp., expects to complete construction of the tollway by 2020.
The government, meanwhile, promised to expedite right-of-way issues for the tollway. -- with a report from Jacque Manabat, ABS-CBN News
