MANILA – The National Food Authority (NFA) has started increasing the allocation of rice in wet markets in Metro Manila.

From the previous daily allocation of 10,000 sacks, the allocation was hiked to 25,000 sacks starting Thursday.

NFA spokesman Rex Estoperez said the NFA is now implementing the “3 Ds”—dagdag alokasyon, dagdag outlet and dagdag bantay.

Rice millers, meanwhile, have assured commercial rice prices will no longer see a spike until the harvest season in September.

Philippine Confederation of Grains Association President Joji Co said the current retail price of commercial rice is at P40 to P41.

Millers have asked government to make sure no unscrupulous individuals will take advantage of the situation by hoarding NFA rice to resell it at a higher price.
