MANILA, Philippines - Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) launched a mobile application for smartphones and tablets to help consumers monitor their consumption and gauge their electricity use.
Meralco Virtual Engine (MOVE) is a free app that customers can already download in Google Play and will be available on the Apple Store on June 15.
After downloading the MOVE app, the consumer needs to register his name and the service identification number.
Using the app, the consumer can choose among the list of appliances.
When the consumer starts to use a specific appliance, he will also switch on the appliance's icon on the phone or tablet in order to see the actual cost of electricity consumption.
For example, an 0.5 horsepower aircon running for 2 hours everyday translates to P300 in electricity cost. A 32-inch plasma TV used for 4 hours everyday translates to P983 in electricity cost.
MOVE project manager Mara Chan said the app will help consumers manage their electricity use and limit the use of specific appliances so as not to incur high electricity bills.
The app also has some energy saving tips and locations of Meralco Bayad Centers. The app can work without Internet connection, except for the location service.
Meralco is also planning to add a feature in the app that will allow consumers to pay through the smartphone or tablet.
