MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Justice (DOJ) has summoned actor and television host Zoren Legaspi to its preliminary investigation into the P4.45 million tax evasion complaint of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) against him.
Assistant State Prosecutor Stewart Allan Mariano, the handling fiscal of the case, has scheduled the hearing at 10 a.m., May 28.
Should he be ready to file his counter-affidavit and defense, Legaspi will be required to appear in the hearing.
In its complaint, the BIR alleged that Legaspi underdeclared his income for taxable years 2010 and 2012 by declaring only P6.79 million in 2010, and P1.82 million in 2012. The BIR assessed him with a total income tax liability of P4.45 million for taxable years 2010 and 2012.
Legaspi earlier expressed his willingness to cooperate in the investigation.
"Sang-ayon po ako na ang tamang buwis ay dapat bayaran para sa ikakaunlad ng bayan," he said. "I'm more than willing to comply and cooperate to assess my tax liabilities. Aalamin po namin kung saan kami nagkamali."
