MANILA – The Philippines risks delaying a proposed free trade agreement with the European Union after Manila decided to refuse aid from one of its largest trading partners, a risk analyst said Thursday.

The EU “will take a dim view” of the Philippines’ move, Eurasia Group director for Southeast Asia Peter Mumford told ANC’s Market Edge with Cathy Yang.

“It definitely makes the prospects of an EU-Philippines free trade agreement less likely anytime soon,” Mumford said.

“This is a disappointing development because this money is aimed at helping the poorest and more vulnerable in the Philippines,” he added.
