MANILA, Philippines - According to a recent forecast of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), travel and tourism industry will grow faster than global economy this year.
It is seen to be on the rise because of improving transportation systems, low-cost airlines and less rigid government restrictions and regulations.
Everyone loves the idea of getting out of the country to see the world and all the sights it may have to offer. Some people focus a year’s worth of savings just to get out of the country for a few days and the fact of the matter is that when they do it, they do it for the experience of it all. They do it so that their lives and experiences are a little fuller than if they simply stayed home.
There is also the fact that traveling abroad – whether on pleasure or business – has a cost. We may already be aware that certain countries like Japan have relaxed their visa requirements, and others – like the USA – have particularly stringent procedures when it comes to allowing foreigners on their land.
Lots of people are already aware of the fact that these kinds of things will cost a lot – hence the saving for months or years. It all goes toward that few days or weeks that you get to spend making an experience, or crossing an item off of your bucket list, or visiting relatives you haven’t seen for more than a decade.
Beyond the fact that your destination requires a visa to enter, while some countries are visa-free for Filipinos, there’s your passport to consider.
There’s the plane tickets, the accommodation, getting around the place you’re visiting. If you’re more on the adventurous side there’s the matter of your gear, and then there’s the fact that you might want to get boosters or added immunization against particular diseases you may encounter on your trip.
These may already factor into the amount you are preparing for that trip abroad, but are you truly aware of the hidden costs of traveling abroad?
