MANILA, Philippines – Truckers under the Aduana Business Club held a truck holiday on Monday to protest Manila's daytime truck ban.

Truckers have been complaining of illegal towing, port congestion, delivery delays and mounting costs due to the ban.

The group said City Ordinance 8336, which imposes the daytime truck ban, should be recalled while delivery trucks should be allowed to ply their designated routes throughout the day.

The truck holiday took effect ahead of a scheduled transport summit on April 23, where stakeholders and government will discuss problems and prospects for the local cargo industry and the transport sector. -- ANC
