MANILA -- President Benigno Simeon Aquino III encouraged young and dynamic leaders of a business club to take advantage of the country’s positive economic performance to become industry leaders.
The President gave a speech during the induction of the officers of the Anvil Business Club at the Heroes Hall in Malacanang Palace on March 24.
The Anvil Business Club, Inc. is an organization of young Filipino-Chinese businessmen and professionals, aged 21 to 50, committed to propagate positive values in promoting a healthy economy and a progressive society.
In his speech, the president commended the members of the club, saying that their wealth of experience and knowledge will lead them to success.
"Even better: a lot of you have put your money where your mouth is. Notice, for example, the spirited competition that our private-public partnerships have attracted—redounding to a system where government and enterprise can work together to fulfill the promise of our country," he added.
Aquino noted the ongoing development in the country's infrastructure to drive business growth, such as the newly opened expressways connecting Pangasinan and La Union, as well as ongoing construction projects in the North and South Expressway.
The President said that these projects were made possible because the government leveled the playing field, focusing on capabilities rather than on connections.
"Given the global community’s reception to the new face of Philippine politics and systems, we expect increased access to wider arenas of competition: so long as you take advantage of our resurgence, you will cease being big businesses operating in a small pond, and perhaps become industry leaders in an entire ocean of opportunities," he further emphasized.
Some 21 officers of the club, in which 19 were present, were sworn into office led by club president Reginald T. Yu and chairman Peter S. Mangasing. Also present were Anvil’s honorary chairman George T. Siy and former chairman Jeffrey T. Ng.
In his message, Yu said that their group aims to propagate positive Confucian and Filipino values, and use these in pursuing excellence in their endeavors for the economic and social progress of the country.
"We imbue our members with the old Chinese ethics and instill in them Filipino values in order to mold the image of the Filipino Chinese businessman as a highly competitive and formidable force in the professional world. Our symbol and namesake, the Anvil, is also our metaphor, for within our Club, we forge not only new friendships and connections, but we endeavor to produce conscientious, decisive, and well-informed business leaders,” said Yu. "
Founded in 1991, the Anvil Business Club, Inc. is now in its 23rd year, and still going strong, with scores of young Filipino-Chinese businessmen joining their ranks every year.
