MANILA -- Volkswagen Philippines is batting for wider market presence as it plans to roll out more models and expand its dealership network this year.
“We will release the gas variants of the Volkswagen Beetle this year plus other variants, as well. We already have six models of the Beetle, but we hope to have two more by the end of the year. We hope to also open two more dealerships in Alabang and Cebu,” said John Philip Orbeta, president of Ayala Automotive Holdings Corp., the Philippines distributor of Volkswagen AG.
The Philippine partner of Volkswagen officially began operations in October 2013, with the first dealership inaugurated in Bonifacio Global City.
Orbeta declined to project sales targets, but the auto firm aims to sell units in “the hundreds” this year.
In an earlier report, Orbeta said the Volkswagen Beetle to be sold locally will be sourced from Brazil and Mexico.
The Volkswagen brand has already released five previous models: the Jetta, Polo Notch, Touran, Tiguan amd Touareg.
Orbeta revealed that they have already pre-sold around 20 units of the iconic Beetle that will arrive in May.
The Volkswagen Group is the world’s second-largest automobile maker as of 2011, with global sales of 8.265 million units and a 12.3-percent share in the passenger-car market. The auto firm has 99 production plants in 27 countries.
