MANILA – A Cabinet oversight committee met on Tuesday to discuss the composition of a team that will review mining operations.
Environment Secretary Gina Lopez said the review of the Mineral Industry Coordinating Committee would be recommendatory.
Lopez had ordered 28 mines shut or suspended for violating environment safety rules.
“If your heart is for the welfare of the people, you will see things in a different way. I am looking at the exciting possibilities of where we have a team of people who really want better lives for our countrymen, to go around and come back with exciting ideas on what can happen. That’s exciting. It’s not regulatory,” Lopez said of the review.
Lopez said the review would focus on the mine operations and not on her closure and suspension orders.
Officials had said that the review could take three months.
