MANILA — Shopping mall tycoon led the Philippines' billionaires list for 2017, while Microsoft founder Bill Gates topped the world ranking for the fourth straight year, Forbes Magazine said Monday.
Sy and his family had a net worth of $12.7 billion and ranked 94th worldwide. Gates' net worth was estimated at $86 billion, up from $75 billion in 2016, Forbes said in a statement.
Tycoon John Gokongwei of the JG Summit group and family was second in the Philippines and 250th worldwide with $5.8 billion.
Taipan Lucio Tan, who controls Philippine Airlines and Asia Brewery, was third in the Philippines with $3.7 billion, followed by Metrobank's George Ty with $3.5 billion and port magnate Enrique Razon of ICTSI with $3.4 billion.
Southeast Asia was home to the most billionaires at 720, Forbes said.
A record 2,034 billionaires made this year's list, with a collective net worth of $7.67 trillion.
