MANILA, Philippines - Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Amando M. Tetangco, Jr. received an honorary doctorate in Public Administration from the Holy Angel University (HAU) in Angeles City, Pampanga last Friday.
The award was given in recognition of Tetangco's "leadership and skill in controlling inflation, in stabilizing the currency, in managing interest rates and steering the country through wave after wave of global financial crises."
Tetangco received the award from Holy Angel University president Dr. Arlyn S. Villanueva and San Fernando Archbishop Paciano B. Aniceto, D.D.
Former Transportation Secretary Jose P. de Jesus, who is also a member of the HAU board of trustees, said Tetangco’s successful leadership at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas ranks him among the world’s best central bank governors.
De Jesus said Tetangco has "raised the bar of integrity and credibility in public service."
Tetangco marks his 40th year of service as a career central banker this year. He studied AB Economics at the Ateneo de Manila University where he graduated cum laude. He received his master’s degree in public policy and administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the US.
