MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - Tycoon Andrew Tan's Emperador Distillers Inc. has signed a deal with the world's leading premium drinks company Diageo to bring "iconic" brands into the Philippines.
"The partnership signals the opportunities for growth in the alcohol drinks sector driven by the Philippines' thriving economy and a rapidly growing middle class that is expected to almost double by 2020," Emperador said.
Emperador, the country's largest distilled spirits company, did not provide other details of the "cooperation agreement" with Diageo.
"The agreement relates to brand(s) currently unavailable in the Philippines. It is separate to, and has no impact on, Diageo's current international spirits brands offering in the market," Diageo said in a separate statement.
Diageo is the world's leading premium drinks business with a wide array of beverage alcohol brands across spirits, beer and wine. These brands include Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, JεB, Windsor, Buchanan’s and Bushmills whiskies, Smirnoff, Cîroc and Ketel One vodkas, Baileys, Captain Morgan, Tanqueray and Guinness.
Emperador is part of Tan's Alliance Global Group Inc., a conglomerate with interests in liquor, real estate, resorts and gaming, and fast food restaurants.
