MANILA, Philippines – The secretary general of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), Dr. Jose Ramon Albert, has ended his 18-month stint and will now return to the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS).
Albert, who left his office on February 9, will return to the PIDS as a senior research fellow specializing on social and welfare statistics and policies.
“Though my stint has been rather brief compared to the long years of my distinguished predecessor, I leave the office with a sense of accomplishment having significantly reached out to all our stakeholders and partners through improved coordination, and having implemented better communication schemes within the office,” Albert said.
During his stint as secretary general, Albert focused on strengthening professionalism, reinforcing integrity and reasserting independence of the organization.
The NSCB has been merged with the National Statistics Office, the Bureau of Labor of Employment of the Department of Labor and Employment, and Bureau of Agricultural Statistics of the Department of Agriculture into one agency, called the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
An interim set of officials will oversee the transition and reorganization processes while the merger is being completed.
A national statistician who will head the PSA will be appointed by the President from a list of nominees submitted by a special committee and endorsed by the PSA board chairperson.
