MANILA, Philippines - Senator Serge Osmeña has joined the call for a probe into the Mactan Cebu International Airport project, a public private partnership effort under the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).
He wants the Senate public services committee to look into GMR, the Indian partner of top bidder Megawide, because its past practices may produce a terminal as problematic as NAIA 3.
Osmeña said GMR got concessions after it won its New Delhi Airport project, which he likened to the contract changes PIATCO got after winning the NAIA 3 project.
"If a person were to be judged by the company that he keeps, what does GMR's association with Fraport tell us? Moreover, did GMR learn any tricks from Fraport," he said.
Osmeña added Fraport, the German company behind NAIA 3, is GMR's partner in New Delhi.
Cebu Rep. Eduardo Gullas has also called for a probe to help speed up the project.
It was bid out in December, but it has not been awarded amid questions raised by number two bidder Filinvest-Changi consortium. - ANC
