MANILA, Philippines - Facebook has tapped Smart Communications as its exclusive telco partner in the Philippines for its plan to offer free or discounted access to Facebook messaging for mobile phone subscribers.
Facebook announced partnerships with 18 mobile operators in 14 countries at the Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona, Spain.
"We're excited with this partnership as it's in line with our goal of making access to messaging and other mobile Internet services accessible to more Filipinos. We're sure that this is something that our subscribers are looking forward to," Orlando B. Vea, Chief Wireless Advisor of Smart Communications, said in a statement.
Free or discounted access will be available on Messenger for Android, Messenger for iOS, and Facebook for Java in the coming months.
Messaging on Facebook allows users to connect with friends and contacts, regardless of what device they are using. Three out of 4 Facebook users send a message on the platform every month.
