MANILA -- Malacanang is hoping that the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) will uphold the people's welfare in deciding on the petition of the Manila Electric Co. over its generation charge.
Meralco has already filed with the ERC a petition to recover the spike in generation charge for January which was not implemented due to the Supreme Court's temporary restraining order.
While the "all-in increase" is P5.33 per kilowatt hour(kWh), Meralco noted that it only cited in their application to recover P4.56/kWh in generation charge.
"Ang ERC po ay independent body sa ilalim ng batas. Sila po ay may tungkulin na alamin kung ang mga inihahaing petisyon patungkol sa pagpapalit ng presyo ng kuryente ay makatwiran o makatarungan," Presidential Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma explained on Sunday.
He added that Malacanang is hoing that the ERC will decide according to the interest of consumers.
"Iyon nga po ang layunin natin ay mapangalagaan ang kapakanan ng mga mamamayan laban sa pagsasamantala at pang-aabuso," he said.
