MANILA, Philippines – Apex Mining Co. Inc. said the suspension issued by government following a tailings spill at its Maco mine in Compostela Valley in January has been lifted.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Apex Mining said the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) has approved its request to lift the suspension “on the contention that the Company has determined the cause of the spills and has mitigated the problem and is undertaking engineering measures to prevent recurrence of the same.”

Apex Mining added that the suspension was lifted based on conditions that the mining firm submits a long term plan to address the tailings spill and that it will allow “the unimpeded continuous monitoring by MGB-Region XI of the mining operations particularly on tailings containment.”

The government issued the temporary suspension order while investigation was conducted on the possible violation of the Water Act.

Apex Mining earlier said heavy downpour caused to the incident.
