US restaurant Wingstop to expand in Philippines

MANILA, Philippines - US-based restaurant chain Wingstop will soon bring its famous chicken wings to the Philippines.

In a statement, Wingstop Restaurants said it has entered into an exclusive development agreement with Wingstop Philippines, Inc. to open 50 restaurants in the country.

The first Wingstop restaurant in Manila is expected to open later this year.

"We cannot wait to introduce ‘The Wing Experts’ to our guests in the Philippines... The Wingstop brand is a synergistic addition to my group’s [CBTL Holdings] vision of building a portfolio of trustworthy and delightful industry-leading companies," Walden Chu, president of Wingstop Philippines, said in a statement.

Aside from Wingstop, Chu's CBTL Holdings also holds the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf franchise in the Philippines.

Wingstop's menu features classic and boneless wings with bold flavors such as Original Hot, Cajun, Atomic, Mild, Teriyaki, Lemon Pepper, Hawaiian, Garlic Parmesan, Hickory Smoked BBQ and Louisiana Rub.

The chain, which is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, has around 600 restaurants in the United States, Mexico, Russia and Singapore. It plans to open more than 85 additional restaurants this year.

Following a record-breaking year of development in 2013, the demand for Wingstop continues to flourish around the globe. This agreement puts us well on our way to what we expect to be another record year of growth for Wingstop," said Wingstop Chief Development Officer Dave Vernon.

There has been an influx of global brands entering the Philippine market in recent years, as the country's economy showed strong growth.
