MANILA, Philippines - The local aviation industry will be audited by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) on Monday, Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya said.
"We are continuously preparing for auditing. We will be audited... on Monday," Abaya said during the Philippine Economic Forum on Wednesday.
Abaya said the government is confident that it has met concerns raised by the United Nations body when it designated the Philippines as a "significant safety concern" in December 2009.
The "significant safety concern" restrains Philippine carriers from starting or expanding operations in a number of countries abroad.
The local aviation industry also has a low rating from the US Federal Aviation Authority, which gave the country a "category 2" in 2008, and from the European Union, which blacklisted the Philippines in April 2010.
