MANILA, Philippines - Leading budget carrier Cebu Air Inc. is blocking the move of AirAsia Inc. to add more flights from Clark International Airpirt to Hong Kong.
AirAsia has filed a petition before the Civil Aeronautics Board for an extra-bilateral grant of 1,260 weekly seats entitlement on the Clark-Hong Kong, and Hong Kong- Clark routes.
The move would allow AirAsia to mount twice daily Clark-Hong Kong flights starting this summer.
Cebu Pacific vice president for marketing and distribution Candice Iyog said there is no need for additional seat entitlements on the Clark-Hong Kong route since there are still unused entitlements that can be re-allocated.
"We would rather negotiate and push for regular air talks with Hong Kong in order to get additional entitlements to Hong Kong," she said.
The Gokongwei-led airline currently flies to 21 international and 32 domestic destinations from its six hubs, Manila, Cebu, Clark, Kalibo, Iloilo, and Davao.
AirAsia, on the other hand, currently has flies from Clark to Davao, Kalibo, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Taipei and Singapore.
