MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has officially unveiled its logo to be used nationwide to entice Filipinos to pay the proper taxes.
The logo, bearing the letters RFP, stands for “register, file and pay.”
BIR Commissioner Kim Henares admitted that the agency has not been meeting its goals but said there have been improvements on a year-to-year basis.
"Every year it’s been an improvement of 14 to 15 percent per the previous year, which is a lot better than what the economy is performing,” said Henares.
Henares said more people are now more conscious about paying the right taxes and the agency continues to plug the loopholes in order to generate more revenue for the government.
The BIR is targeting a P1.456 trillion revenue collection this year.
"We never complain about our goal, we just work hard and try to achieve it. If at the end of the year, if we hit it then good. If not, then we should have an explanation,” Henares said.
Henares also admitted they’ve started investigating Cedric Lee’s businesses.
"We started looking as to his tax performance and history. Then depending on the result of that review, then the next step would be the need to issue a letter of authority or not,” she said.
