Why Philippines is relatively ‘immune’ from TPP fallout

MANILA – Strong economic fundamentals and President Rodrigo Duterte’s pivot to China will help the Philippines withstand shifting world trade dynamics after the US pulled out of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, an economist said Wednesday.

Improved ties between Manila and Beijing will pave the way for Chinese investments in Philippine infrastructure, Mahamoud Islam, senior Asia economist for trading insurance company Euler Hermes told ANC’s “Market Edge with Cathy Yang.”
