MANILA, Philippines - Officials of tech giant Google were injured, albeit very minor, during the ceremonial hitting of a "palayok" (clay pot) at the event where the company announced it is opening a Philippine office.
Office opening, more fun in PH? Google officials discovered how fun--but a bit dangerous--opening an office is in the Philippines if it comes with the breaking of the 'palayok,' a common party event during children's birthday parties. In this video grab, Southeast Asia general manager Julian Persaud is hit on the face by a big piece of the broken clay pot after it was cracked by himself, Google Philippine country manager Narciso Reyes and Manuel Quezon III, undersecretary of the Presidential Communications Development Strategic Planning Office. -- ABS-CBN video grab
Google's Philippine country manager Narciso Reyes sustained a small cut on the hand, while Southeast Asia general manager Julian Persaud got a small cut and bump on his forehead after the "palayok" incident.
Persaud flew in the country for the said event, wherein Google announced it is finally setting up shop in the Philippines with a new office in central Makati.
The two Google executives were joined by Manuel Quezon III, undersecretary at the Presidential Communications Development Strategic Planning Office, during the ceremonial hitting of the "palayok."
