SC orders 3 respondents to participate in rate hike oral arguments

MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) has directed the Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC), National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) and Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management (PSALM), three of the respondents in the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) rate hike petitions, to participate in the oral arguments on the consolidated petitions.

The high court, in its Tuesday session, denied their waiver to participate in the orals arguments, they are each given 10 minutes for their opening statements.

The SC on Tuesday is hearing petitions questioning the legality of Meralco’s P4.15 per kilowatt-hour rate increase. The rate hike earlier halted by the high tribunal.
