Therma Marine to refund P180-M to Mindanao customers

MANILA, Philippines – Aboitiz unit Therma Marine Inc. said it will provide a refund to its Mindanao customers amounting to P180 million.

Therma Marine said the refund will be implemented within 6 months as mandated by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in its January 3 order.

The refund will be applied to the billing period of December 26, 2013 to January 25, 2014 of Therma’s Marine’s direct customers, electric cooperatives and distribution utilities.

The electric cooperatives and distribution utilities were also ordered by the ERC to apply the refund to to its customers.

Therma Marine president Jovy Batiquin said the refund was implemented based on the ERC decision that the final rate “must be lower than the earlier approved provisional rate.”

The power barge operator said the following electric cooperatives and distribution utilities will receive refunds equivalent to 6 equal months payments:

Agusan del Norte Electric Cooperative, Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative, Bukidnon Second Electric Cooperative, Camiguin Electric Cooperative, Cotabato Electric Cooperative, Davao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Davao Light and Power Company, Davao Oriental Electric Cooperative, Misamis Occidental I Electric Cooperative, Misamis Oriental II Electric Cooperative, South Cotabato I Electric Cooperative, South Cotabato II Electric Cooperative, Sultan Kudarat Electric Cooperative, Surigao del Norte Electric Cooperative, Surigao del Sur I Electric Cooperative, Surigao del Sur II Electric Cooperative, Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative, Zamboanga del Sur II Electric Cooperative, Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative, and Zamboanga del Sur I Electric Cooperative.

Batiquin is encouraging Mindanao consumers to contact their respective local distribution utility and electric cooperative to determine the amount and collection process of the refund.
