MANILA, Philippines – Nestlé Philippines, Inc.’s Robusta coffee mother plant garden in Tagum City, Davao del Norte has been certified by the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI).
The mother plant garden is the first in the Philippines to be issued the Plant Material Certificate for complying with the standards set by the government regarding planting materials.
“The certification process for the mother plant garden is a major activity because it aims to identify and pinpoint where quality planting materials are being produced,” said Danilo Dannug, senior agriculturist and head of the Plant Material Certification Section of the BPI’s National Seed Quality Control Services (NSQCS) division.
The mother plant garden, located at the Nestlé Coffee Plantlet Production and Training Center (NCPPTC), was tagged as a source of high-quality and high-yielding seedlings, which assures possible buyers of the superiority of Nestlé’s crops.
The NCPPTC, the country’s first agricultural research and development center, is a one-stop shop serving as a Robusta seedling production nursery, training and techno-demo center, buying station and composting facility for organic fertilizer.
