MANILA, Philippines - Top business executives from Ayala Corp., Jollibee Foods Corp. and Shell in the Philippines were appointed to the National Competitiveness Council (NCC), the Palace said on Wednesday.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said President Benigno Aquino appointed three new private sector representatives to the NCC under the Department of Trade and Industry.

They are: Edgar Chua, country chairman of Shell Companies in the Philippines; Tony Tan Caktiong, co-founder and chairman of Jollibee Foods Corp.; and Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, chairman of Ayala Corp.

The NCC was formed in 2006 as a Public-Private Task Force on Philippine Competitiveness. It is tasked to help improve the country’s competitiveness from the bottom third of competitiveness rankings to the top third by 2016.

The NCC is chaired by Trade and Industry Secretary Gregory L. Domingo for the public sector and co-chaired by Guillermo M. Luz for the private sector.
